I Decant Wait!

We are so happy to announce that we will be releasing our 2016 Syrah during August’s Wine Club Release Party. Wine club members will be the first to taste this great wine – it will be released to the public on September 1st, 2018.

This wine is a big and bold expression of a warm weather Syrah that warms the soul on a cool evening. Packed with red, black and blue fruit flavors and pronounced tannins make this wine ideal to pair with braised meats, hearty stews, and sweet BBQ. A hint of earth, leather, and bramble brings us back to the earth elements and grounds us with this satisfying wine.

This wine is young and could age for the next 7 years – however, it probably won’t last that long in your wine rack. This wine is ideal to Decant and decanting is recommended. Decanting is the process of pouring the wine from one container to another container to allow it to oxygenate. If you don’t have a fancy decanter, an inexpensive one can be found at most department stores or online. If you don’t have the patience for that, just pour the wine into a pitcher – we don’t judge.

This mixing and aeration process helps the wine to relax and “open up”. It allows the wine to “breath” and to release its aromatics and softens the perception of tannins (that drying sensation you get from some wines). The process is simple and is a lot of fun to do.

It is recommended that you decant your wine at least 1-3 hours prior to serving. I know this might be a challenge. Gently pour your wine into the decanter and let it run down the inside surface. If it is an old wine with sediment, try not to pour any sediment into the decanter – leave it in the bottle.

Then gently swirl the wine and smell it and take a small sip. Every 15 minutes or so give the decanter a few good swirls and smell and sip again. If you don’t detect any change its time to enjoy. If it is evolving let it go and see what develops.

Not every wine should be decanted. If the wine is low in tannins or young and tastes great on the first sip – get the party rolling – otherwise, wait and build the anticipation.

Decanting wine is a romance – aerators are a quickie.

Cheers

P.S. We are also pre-releasing our 2015 Mount Veeder (Napa) Syrah to the club – if you like the Reserve Syrah this one is even better IMHO. Club members can now order online. Only 53 cases produced and only 40 will be released – sorry the rest is mine.
